湯川（No.2）
奥さんがリゾナーレの仕事で小淵沢に行っていたので、小海で奥さんを拾い、そのまま湯川で前泊するという計画を立てた。しかし軽井沢を出発するのが遅れてしまい、結局奥さんに中込まで出てきてもらった（それでも40分ほど待たせてしまいたいそう怒られた）。日和そうになったが、このまま軽井沢に戻ると明日の朝は起きれない気がして、せっかくビバーク道具も持ってきたので、そのまま湯川に向かった。真っ暗闇の中、いつも車を停めている林道まで移動する。
湯川は寒かった。僕のノースフェイスのヒマラヤ対応シュラフでも寒く、ICIのダウン900グラムシュラフだった奥さんはぜんぜん眠れなかったようである。この日は土曜日だったので、朝6:00頃よりどんどん車が上がってくる。前日から来ていて良かった。前回と同じく白髭エリアに向かったが、この時点では誰も来てなかった。最初リードで取り付こうとしたが、カチカチに凍っていたので全く歯が立たず、左側から周りこんでトップロープをセットした。前回来た時に、最新のバイルが欲しくなったので、一本だけブラックダイアモンドのバイルを買ってきた。今回はデビュー戦。しかし、やはり前回は氷が柔らかかっただけなのか、バイパーはぜんぜん刺さってくれない。考えてみれば、以前からアイスクライミングは苦手だ。やってなかったのにうまくなってるはずはないのだ。奥さんのDMMプレデターとバイパーという、一応それほど古くないアックスの組み合わせだったが、どうにも決まらない。パンプもしてきて、短いルートなのにテンションまでしてしまう始末だった。奥さんも抜けたバイルが顔面にあたり、すっかりやる気を喪失しており、午後から会社に行かなければならなかったこともあり、一人3回ほど登って撤収した。岳人に掲載された後だったらしく、ものすごく混雑していた。今後は平日来るようにしよう。
